Ok, y'all, I'm hoping some knowledge zoners will educate us a bit.
Most netbooks out there are using the atom n270.
I've just seen a dell mini 10 today, and it is using an Atom processor Z530.
What are the differences? Why choose one over the other?
Thanks!
I'm not sure, might havge to look it up. Probably only the only difference is is the speed at anything at all
I asked mr Google and found that the Z530 is a different design, slightly smaller and it runs cooler than the N230, doing away with the need for a fan apparently, if you just Google n270 vs z530 you see a lot of in-depth discussion regarding these processors. The N270 costs round $35 whereas the Z530 costs twice as much. There are virtually no differences in operation but the fanless design allowed by the Z530 offers a slight advantage, I'd guess improved battery life and less heating for one thing.
So it appears if the netbook is priced similarly to a different one the one with Z530 is probably a slightly better buy, although for any reguar user there's probably no difference except possibly slightly longer battery life.

Thanks WildBrew. I did google it, I also like hearing it translated via another mind. Such as yourself. Confirms if I understood what I read, and maybe someone else got more out of the info. *smile*
the 32 nm atom processor is coming out this year.
Much cooler than the z530 and longer battery life.
But then again, its still a solo cor... shrug
It'd be cool to get dual core atom processors, but for the kind of devices they are aimed at it's not really necessary. Apparently the new Windows will also be more Netbook friendly, lighter on System resources and turns of disk fragmentation for instance. I am definitely hoping I can waitout Vista by using XP until the new Windows is out. I think MS flopped badly with it but still hope they can come back with something decent. But, that's a topic for a different discussion. I'd like to wait for the 32 NM processor but even if it comes out this year I think it'll take netbook manufacturers 3 to 6 months to catch up and come out with devices and further 6 months before the prices are similar to what Atom N270 based ones are selling for now.
